This incident happened on 11/01/09 last Sunday. The name of the company i'm referring to on the email is Diamond Pressure washing, their # is 281-221-2217 ans 936-827-0303.
Mel and New York club, My husband went to the grocery store this evening. On his way back he
saw a pressure washing company truck parked in the drive thru of Bank
of America, the one on Clear Lake City Boulevard, well he was
horrified to see one of the guys who works for the pressure washing
company shooting the pigeons that live under the roof of the drive
thru with a bb gun!!! My husband rushed home to let me know, then i
grabbed the camera and told me that he saw one of the guys shooting
the pigeons and he also saw how they guy dumped a pigeon by the ditch
behind bank of america. The guy had they gun under his coat, obviously
so nobody could see exactly was doing.
Once we got there, i started shooting a video with my camera. They
guys denied everything, i acted like i was leaving, then my husband
who had stayed behind approached the guys and confronted them, the
guys got nervous and told hubby that there were some young guys
shooting birds earlier!!! hubby told them they were lying, because he
saw when the one of the guys shot one of the birds. I filemd the whole
thing and got the name of the company and license plates and everything.
I don't think people are allowed to shoot in the inner city, not sure
how the laws work here in Texas, or in Houston, but what those guys
did makes me so freaking angry!!!
I'm pretty sure Bank of America is not aware of that. I went to their
website and didn't see a "leave your comments" area, do you happen to
know who i can send the video and comments @ Bank of America? They
shouldn't hire people like that, i'm sure they were hired to pressure
washed the drive thru not to kill the birds!!!
On the second video when they guy is calling my husband telling him
"sir, sir" he confesses what he did. Too bad i didn't record that! It
happened while a was getting the name of the company and the license
plates!
I'm not able to send you the video, been trying all night last night
and today and it just doesn't go thru.
Please let me know who to contact or what to do, I don't want this
SOB's to get away with murder....

You should call the police as well as the ASPCA and the Humane Society. Also complain to the District Attorney. Send the Video to PETA as well call them. PETA's number is 757-622-7382 and don't forget to call Bank of America. These murders need to be stopped and fired. |

How kind of you to help end something very cruel. I would suggest that you write a letter with as much detail as possible and send it to the Office of the President Bank of America and send it return receipt requested. I think when someone goes to that extreme to send it to the highest officer, they do take note and realize what a public relations nightmare it can become. It doesn't matter if they like animals or not, most executives don't want bad press for an incident such as this. Good luck with your effort, don't give up!! |

I don't know why no one is suggesting the obvious -- that you contact the president of the pressure washing company, but that is the first thing I would do. Let him know what kind of creeps he has for employees. The second thing is contact all of the news media in the area. Then contact the head of that branch of Bank of America, with follow-up to the national office.
The police will probably do nothing, but you should definitely contact local and national animal protection groups - PETA, Humane Society are good, and any local groups that you know of.
And ABSOLUTELY post your video on YouTube.
One question: why did you wait a WEEK before contacting anyone about this?

Pigeons are probably still below feral cats in the pecking order, but I think there are some parallels b/w these two cases:
 On August 14, 2008, the Henrico County, Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorney office successfully prosecuted a man who killed three feral cats behind a local television station in June. Keith Copi, the operator of a Critter Control franchise, was convicted of three counts of animal cruelty under a Virginia law that prohibits the “cruel or unnecessary” killing of any cat. For each cat killed, Mr. Copi was given a 12-month suspended sentence and a $250 fine.
Alley Cat Allies launched a petition commending the Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney for prosecuting the case, and for taking the lives of stray and feral cats seriously. Over 5,200 supporters ultimately signed the petition, which we delivered to the prosecutor before the trial. Alley Cat Allies also sent a letter to Wade A. Kizer, the Commonwealth’s Attorney, commending him for prosecuting this case.
Alley Cat Allies and its supporters know that all cats deserve protection, regardless of their level of socialization to humans. There are anti-cruelty laws protecting cats in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Prosecutors should uphold the law and prosecute all cruelty cases regarding stray and feral cats. Yet too often prosecutors don’t. Those who do deserve our thanks and support.

I agree that you should post it on YouTube.
I think you should also contact local media.
You can write a press release and send them your YouTube link.

Here is a great site where you can put in your zip code and search for local and national media sources to write to: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/media/. You can then compose your letter, and send it to five sources at a time (you can hit the back button to send the same letter to bunches of different sources).

Hi,
You should contact HSUS and PETA. They were very active in getting the DOT in NY to stop allowing their power washing company to kill pigeons while they were "power washing" under the NYS bridges last year.
HSUS or PETA will contact Bank of America about the company you witnessed killing pigeons. Bank of America will not want this kind of publicity. I believe some of these power washing companies are being utilized to remove pigeons, not power wash.

I contacted the company hired to kill the birds - Diamond Pressure Washing - he is beside himself with remorse and regret and now trying to do the right thing. I gave him Wildlife, Rehab and Education's number (http://wrande.org/and) and he in fact called them to find out what he could do in the future. WRE called me back to discuss what we could do to help the babies and I agreed to call the company who ordered the killing of the birds. I informed them that firstly killing the birds never helps, the babies may more than likely be nesting on the roofs left to die and killing them never solves the problem as other birds will just come back to nest there anyway. What is effective is to humanely remove the birds and then put down porcupine wire as it is called. Can always tell people how dangerous it is to poison the birds by explaining to them how serious it could be if a child picked up a piece of poisoned corn. Bank of America ordered the removal of these birds and I did speak with the manager who was not happy with my call and told me that according to the law nothing illegal was done. I explained to her that whilst it may not be illegal there are a lot of laws in this country that are legal but inhumane and the problem can be resolved in a more humane way. She told me that the instructions came through Richard Ellis Management (713-247-7102). I have not been able to speak with them, left a message - in the meantime these poor babies who were orphaned may or may not even be alive anymore. The guy from Diamond Pressure Washing is now working with WRE to do the right thing and may be able to rescue some of the birds .... and WRE said if there were any birds needing help they would take them.
