You say in your closing paragraph, "The experts are saying all is fine at Arcadia." The so-called experts went on an inspection, looked around, and left. Unless they inspected the birds individually, which they did not, just because a bird sits on a perch does not deem it healthy! Those "experts" hung up on me when I called to report something of concern at Arcadia, actually yelled at me, and told me "don't ever call here again." And that's a quote! Those are our experts, those are the people who oversee abuse?! I was yelled at, spoke to like a criminal and hung up on! And that was by a very high up so-called EXPERT! I was also told by another organization that they are limited as to what they can do because of the lack of specific laws overseeing the care of birds. So just because the "experts" take a drive over to Arcadia, get out of their car, look around, get back in their car, and go on their way, does not a true inspection make! Were any birds examined, even touched, to check for health, weight, etc.? What about all the birds that have died there? Are they reported to F&W, as required by law? Is her permit updated to note this, as required by law? We shall see, because that is public information and, if the correct forms are sent to F&W, must be provided to the public.
I'm sickened that this place is still open. Terri took on the responsibility of caring for these birds, and it is her responsibility to do that to the utmost. It is her responsibility to provide them with the proper food, proper size caging, proper ventilation, proper heat, proper everything! And if she can't do that, get out of rescue!
All I can say is Arcadia better have proper housing for every single one of those birds this winter, or else there will be NO birds having to live like that at Arcadia come next winter. I promise you that!

SPCA knows nothing about the care of exotic parrots, and I mean zilch. They require that the birds have food and water -- no matter that the water is stagnant and hasn't been changed in over a week, no matter that the food is mold, THAT IS ALL THEY REQUIRE!!! They enforce the laws which require that the animal has food and water. Arcadia Sanctuary is a trailer in the back of her home. In the winter it is freezing cold, in the summer it is sweltering hot. The birds cannot get out of the cages and are forced to endure extreme temperature changes with no proper ventilation. The SPCA knows nothing about the care of tropical parrots!!!! |
